Who We Are
The RBG crew, L-R, Kathy Dieterich, Liz Durfee, Cynthia Russell, Irene Stoller
Rabbit Brush Gallery was conceived by Liz Durfee, and opened in November 2010 to feature the diverse, beautiful, creative and handcrafted work of primarily local and regional artists, as well as fair-trade goods from overseas. Her background in studio art and art history includes a BA from CU Boulder, and stints at the Arvada Center and Boulder’s former McLaren Markowitz Gallery. Other passions include cooking, competing in agility with her dogs, working on her gardens, and endless home remodeling projects with husband Joe.It takes a small village to run a gallery (accounting, advertising, newsletters, website, data entry, shipping, etc…), please meet some of the major players:
Kathy Dieterich is a former gypsy who’s happy to have landed in Hygiene, where she hopes to stay. She loves art and artists and meeting the people who frequent Rabbit Brush Gallery. She’s also a freelance editor.
A seamstress and jewelry designer, Cynthia Russell’s love for textiles, fabric, texture, patterns and colors has grown ever since learning to sew on her grandmother’s treadle Singer sewing machine when she was 6-years old. Admitted weaknesses—be they a colorful scarf, distinct earrings, vibrant bracelets, unique wall hangings, or an organic sculpture for a weather-worn fence made from the ordinary—accessories of all kinds, and rescue kitties.
When Irene Stoller is not at Rabbit Brush, she is often making pots or bead jewelry (both on display at the gallery), or working her border collies on the small sheep ranch she and her husband have near Hygiene. She says “I love working at the gallery because it gives me a chance to talk to customers, discover what they are looking for, and see all of Liz’s finds.”
